I really like how this comic is done, yes it does overly simplify domestic violence, but I also honestly wish this how the episode would of went. Though the subject matter itself might be hard for kids to grasp, but I do think it would be a great early lesson to teach them, and I know some adults need to learn it as well. My sister's ex-husband needed to learn it.
I see Twilight as a meditator, and counselor. After the animals scold Angel and go to make sure Fluttershy is alright, he goes to Twilight and she uses a spell to understand what he's saying. They have a pretty long discussion on there own about what he did and how it was wrong. Then they go to Fluttershy's place and Twilight mediates between them to get them to open up and talk about what happen.
I do agree with you whole heartedly on Angel. He is spoiled but I think he cares about her and does help her out a lot. Like when she was helping Philomena, and during the Ponyville Confidential Episode when she was upset over the Gabby Gums episode.
